Introduction
Nisha Mantry is a ghostwriter based out of Kolkata, West Bengal, India.
For the last few years, Nisha’s been writing content and ghostwriting for various founders, CEOs, and agency owners. When asked why ghostwriting matters, she said:
A lot of executives still don't know the potential of LinkedIn and good content, and that's where my services help them to build their brand, and get more leads in terms of customers and investors.
In this interview, we cover how Nisha became a ghostwriter, the benefits ghostwriting offers, and how to get started yourself.
1. How did you become a ghostwriter?
When I first started writing content for myself, I was approached by an agency founder who loved my LinkedIn posts and he asked me to write his clients' posts, too.
That's how my journey as a ghostwriter began.
I knew how to write LinkedIn posts, but writing for someone else wasn’t as easy as it looks. I learned I needed to adapt their tone, style, and the way they communicate to come up with the best pieces. And, this is what I found the most challenging and interesting.
Since then, I started approaching more clients and have been doing ghostwriting for them.
The major reason for focusing on ghostwriting is that I love learning about people's stories and experiences, and then using my words to share their insights. Moreover, I know the potential of good content, and I want more people to utilize their network and experience for their own good.
2. How do you recommend others get started writing content?
I learned content writing by actually writing things. So when I decided to start my freelancing career, I thought of starting as a content writer. I watched a lot of YouTube videos to learn writing but that didn't help much.
Instead, I read a few blogs and started writing some on my own. That's how I have been practising; learning from blogs and other writers, and applying what I find.
As for ghostwriting, this started for me when I worked with an agency to write their clients’ LinkedIn posts. It was fun. I was learning about CEOs, founders, and top executive's lives and journeys then writing about them. I was hooked.
From there, I worked on my storytelling skills, got better at writing LinkedIn posts, and then started providing ghostwriting services.
That’s all to say: I believe that if you want to learn writing, the best way to do it is by "actually writing stuff.”
No courses or videos can teach you how to write.
Start by following some great industry people, take their advice on writing, read a few blogs and articles to see how things are written, and start writing yourself.
The more you write, the better you become at it.
3. Why should more founders, CEOs, and agency owners adopt ghostwriting?
The two major problems most of my clients face are a lack of time and a lack of experience.
Most top executives don't have the time to write content consistently on LinkedIn since they have a lot of other business priorities. They also lack the skills it takes to write content that people actually want to read.
For these reasons, I recommend executives adopt ghostwriting services.
If you lack time or don't have the expertise to write content, consider outsourcing it to a ghostwriter to access:
High-quality content
Time savings
Expertise in a variety of topics and writing styles
Objectivity and fresh perspectives
Confidentiality
Increased productivity
Brand awareness
Increased sales
A lot of executives still don't know the potential of LinkedIn and good content, and that's where my services help them to build their brand, and get more leads in terms of customers and investors.
If you’re still not convinced and you’d like to write your own content, I’ll leave you with this key tip:
Be authentic while you are writing and try to share your stories more often because people love reading them.
It works wonders for my clients, and it’ll work for you, too.
4. Can you share with us a major win?
Just recently, I helped my client who's a life coach increase her LinkedIn following by 30%. We even got 35+ bookings for her consultation calls and already have 12 seats booked for her upcoming course.
When this client approached me, her objective was to grow her LinkedIn following and generate leads for her digital products. So we first started by figuring out the problems she was facing like not getting enough views, low-quality leads, and wrong targeting.
Then we defined her target audience, researched their pain points, and made a content and promotional strategy to bring the desired results.
All of our efforts worked because we knew what we were doing. We were now targeting the right people, knowing what they wanted, and delivering exactly that.

5. What is your superpower?
I believe my superpower is understanding what people want to convey and how they want to convey it, and then moulding their stories into words.
When it comes to ghostwriting, it’s not just about writing on someone's behalf, but understanding their point of view, adapting to their style and tone, and writing content accordingly.
So, that's where my ability to understand my clients helps a lot.
Thank you, Nisha, for jumping aboard and sharing your story with us.
